98 Degrees, New Kids on the Block and Boys II Men Talk Package Tour

One of the biggest boy-band collaborations is coming to a city near you!
The guys from New Kids on the Block, Boys II Men and 98 Degrees have all come together for the blowout summer tour which kicks off May 31 in Connecticut, but before the boys hit the road, they sat down with E! News' Alicia Quarles to talk about the Package tour, how it came about and, of course, the screaming fans.

Donnie Wahlberg then made the distinction that, "Men and women are different. Men go onstage and women scream, and we wanna hear it forever. Women walk down the street and a guy goes, ‘Yo, yo, yo!' Girls get sick of it. They don't wanna get hit on."
Well, he has a point.
As far as getting these groups together, Wahlberg shared that, "This was the discussion, there was no reaching out to 20 groups and see who wants to show up. It was, ‘Let's put this tour together with these three groups,' and fortunately, we were able to make it all work."

And regardless of how busy each singer was with their personal life or other jobs, this was an offer they couldn't refuse.
"The opportunity to be a part of something like this," Jeff Timmons said, "I mean, you're talking about groups who have, collectively, sold hundreds of millions of records, and of course, we all have families and stuff like that and we're gonna hopefully bring them on the road, but it's just an opportunity that we just couldn't pass up, I don't think."
Nathan Morris then simply stated, "This is one of those one times, where all men fall in love with one woman, which is music."

"Ladies, we're coming for you," NKOTB's Donnie Wahlberg said in a statement. "This is going to be the craziest year yet — the single, the album, the tour with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men ... We can't wait to give fans 'The Package!' "
But Donnie isn't the only boy-bander ready for the tour. 98 Degrees are also up for the challenge as they prepare for the opening slot on the tour. They reunited last year, playing the NKOTB-headlined Mixtape Festival last summer. "We are really excited to get back on the road together and tour with our friends in NKOTB and Boyz II Men," Nick Lachey said. "Looking forward to playing our hits and trying out some of our new tracks too."
"We couldn't be more excited to join New Kids on the Block and 98 Degrees on 'The Package Tour,' " BIIM member Shawn Stockman said. "This summer is going to be fun and fans will not want to miss it."

This isn't the first time NKOTB have combined boy-band forces. They toured with the Backstreet Boys in 2011 under the moniker NKOTBSB. The groups not only performed parts of the hit-packed set solo but also as a ninesome. Jordan Knight said, "These guys are classic. To have two great groups from the '90s come on tour with us ... we're getting a lot of people involved to come to the show."
"We've been so inspired in our career by both of these groups," Lachey added about the opportunity to tour with the two boy bands. The group also confirmed they are working on new music.
Declaring themselves the "Dirty Dozen," BIIM confirmed they will be up first during the tour, followed by 98 and then NKOTB.
But wait, there's more. The guys in NKOTB have new music on the way. They will drop their next album, 10, on April 2. Its first single, "Remix (I Like The)," will hit the streets on January 28.

Forget NKOTBSB.
The new '90s boy band mashup is NKOTBSBBIIM98D.
Okay, so maybe that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but we're still excited: The New Kids on the Block confirmed that they're going out on yet another tour — this time with openers Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees.
The tour will coincide with the release of NKOTB's new album, 10, scheduled for release on April 2.
So, why add Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees to the bill? It's a win-win situation for all.
"There is a lot of nostalgia and we embrace that," McIntyre added. "But it always feels young and fresh. I guess that's one of the great things about being in the music business is that you never have to quite grow up."
Nick and the rest of the 98 Degrees guys haven't publicly commented yet, but last year he told Fanhattan.com that NKOTB's reunion sort of pushed them toward a reunion.
"You see them go out and do that and have fun and have success, but we always said, 'You know, we leave the door open on the reunion. We’ve never broken up. We’re just taking a break,'" the new dad said. "For us it was more about the timing being right, everyone’s schedule being in the right place and I think now we’re at the place where that’s actually starting to happen."
And we can't wait.

“The Waffle House is where we stop late at night because nobody’s there,” Donnie Wahlberg, 43, says Tuesday during their warmup event held Tuesday at NYC’s Irving Plaza. “I know ya’ll eat a lot of waffles and hash browns.”
He adds, “I promise you the first stop on the tour that has a Waffle House within 50 miles, we’re going. We’re going to hold up the parking lot, and it’s not going to stop until about 5 a.m. How’s that?”

Turns out, between the three acts, they claim to have 45 hit singles, which will make for a whopping 3 ½ hour show.
Although the tour doesn’t kick off until May 31, they are elated to perform. NKOTB sing If You Go Away as Donnie and Jon Knight joke around onstage, laughing, and Joe McIntyre stretches out the high note on Please Don’t Go Girl, saying “I know they love me because they haven’t walked off yet.”
Hm, why bring 98 Degrees on the road this year? After tagging Jeff Timmons as a “stud muffin” and Nick Lachey as an “international superstar,” they get real.
“They’re incredible,” Jordan Knight, 42, says. “Seriously. They’re great guys, they haven’t performed together in ten years, they’re walking a similar path that we did in coming back together after a long time. We love these guys, we respect these guys, they’re great guys, and our fans love these guys, so why not 98 Degrees?”
With that, 98 Degrees head out to perform Invisible Man and The Hardest Thing. The guys express their sincere appreciation, and promise to give 100%. Next up, Boyz II Men roll through Water Runs Dry and I’ll Make Love To You. Wow, both 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men can really sing!
For The Package Tour, which runs through July 13, Donnie promises surprise guests but swears that Backstreet Boys won’t return. The guys, dubbed NKOTBSB, toured together in 2011.
Hm, will see [his brother] Marky Mark [Wahlberg]? After all, before he went Hollywood and became a big movie star, we knew him as the one-hit wonder who sang the 1991 hit Good Vibrations with his Funky Bunch.
“Who?” Donnie asks me, before moving on to the next question.

“I don’t know,” says Donnie. “How’s that?”

“We worked so hard on this album,” Jordan says, referring to their new offering, 10, which hits stores April 2. “It’s going to take you on a journey — you’re going to feel joy, you’re going to feel pain, you’re going to feel a lot of stuff you experienced, and I’m sure you’ll be able to relate to it, because we’ve all been through a lot of stuff.”
Plus, as the guys won’t let eventgoers forget, “12 packages.”

Banners and teenage girl screams at the ready - New Kids On the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men are teaming up for a summer tour.
The Package Tour sees the hit boybands - whose members are definitely not 'boys' anymore - play more than 30 dates across the US.
It marks the first time on tour in 12 years for 98 Degrees. Meanwhile, New Kids On the Block also announced a new single, 'Remix (I Like The)', which will be released on 28 January along with a new album, '10', out on 2 April.
NKOTB, made up of brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg (actor Mark's brother), and Danny Wood first got together in 1984 and have now sold 80 million records worldwide.
The 'Hangin Tough' singers broke up in 1994 but have since regrouped and in 2011-2012 formed a supergroup with the Backstreet Boys.
Their new stage partners 98 Degrees, made up of brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, Justin Jeffre, and Jeff Timmons, released their first self-titled album in 1997 and went on to sell over 10 million records worldwide.
In 2002 the group went on a 'hiatus', insisting they had not split up, and in 2012 they reunited for a one-time performance. It obviously went well, as now they have also got a new album on the way.
They will both join Boys II Men, who are the most successful R&B group of all time having sold 60 million albums worldwide.
Their emotional ballads and a cappella harmonies are currently sung by baritone Nathan Morris alongside tenors Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman after bass singer Michael McCary left the group in 2003 due to health issues.
They had huge hits throughout the nineties with 'End Of The Road', 'On Bended Kneee' and their Mariah Carey collobaration 'One Sweet Day', releasing their latest album 'Twenty' in 2011.
Collectively, the three bands sold over 100 million records in the 1980s and 1990s, but they weren't the only ones...

Boy band fan are squealing with delight over the new that three of the biggest boy bands from the 1980's and 90's will be touring together.
New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men, announced they'll all be part of "The Package Tour" this summer.
NKOTB features members Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight and Joey McIntyre. This is the first tour for 98 Degrees in more than 12 years. The group includes Cincinnati natives Nick and Drew Lachey along with Justin Jeffre and Jeff Timmons. Boyz II Men includes members Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris.
The tour will make a stop in Cincinnati at U.S. Bank Arena on Tuesday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will range in price from $30 to $93 and go on sale to the public on Saturday, February 2 at 10:00 a.m.

Entitled "10", the album will come out a few months from now on April 2, but as early as January 28, loyal NKOTB followers will already get to hear its first single, "Remix (I Like The)".
To support their new music, NKOTB will go on a 28-city concert tour with equally popular boybands Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees. Branded "The Package Tour", the three groups will kick off their tour at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on May 31 and will continue on the road until July. It marks 98 Degrees' first tour in twelve years, joining the other two phenomenal singing groups who have continuously performed onstage in recent years, despite the emergence of new and younger boybands.
To promote their upcoming team-up, the men appeared Tuesday morning, January 22 on the popular ABC talk show "The View". All members of each group were in attendance. They were NKOTB's quintet of siblings Jordan Knight and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood, Boyz II Men's trio of Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris, and 98 Degrees' quartet of brothers Nick Lachey and Drew Lachey, Justin Jeffre, and Jeff Timmons.

Donnie Wahlberg it's not a matter of why now, rather "why not?" The
recording artist-turned-actor was referring to the news of a major tour
with his New Kids on the Block, who'll be joined this summer on "The
Package Tour" by 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men.
The tour kicks off May 31 in Uncasville, Conn. and ends July 13 in Minneapolis.
"The state of the boy band union is strong," Wahlberg joked Tuesday. "Even though technically we're not really boy bands, but we're OK with that, so we'll accept it."
The three bands sold millions of records in the 1980s and '90s and helped usher in a wave of vocal groups that continues today.
The Boston-based NKOTB formed in 1984 and amassed ten Top 20 hits. They broke up in 1994 but got back together after a 14-year hiatus. Wahlberg said he feels the break coincided with the maturation of their fan base.
"They needed time to have families and husbands and children and get jobs and live their life," Wahlberg said.
But now he sees his band's music as a complement to the fans' adult lives.
"We created an outlet for them to feel good about themselves and tap into that youthfulness that had been put to bed for a long time ... you may be 40, but the euphoria of it makes you feel 14 all over again," Wahlberg said.
The band also announced a new single, "Remix (I Like The)," which will be released Jan. 28, and a new album, "10," which is out April 2.
That music will be a bit more mature than some of the band's previous material, member Joey McIntyre said.
"It is about the decisions that a grown man makes and goes through, as opposed to singing songs like 'Popsicle,'" he said.
Nathan Morris, one of the members of Boyz II Men, known since the early 1990s for such hits as "I'll Make Love to You" and "End of the Road," said the tour is going to be all about performing.

Though 98 Degrees is the youngest group on the bill, it has been apart the longest, 12 years.
"So we're excited to get back together and doing what we do," member Nick Lachey said. "We feel reinvigorated by our bond and by our group, so we're very excited by that."
Wahlberg, who stars as Detective Danny Reagan on the CBS television series "Blue Bloods," about several generations of a family of New York City police officers, said the boy bands' tour, kicking off May 31 in Uncasville, Connecticut, and continuing into July with more than 30 dates, is going to be "great."
"You have three acts that have lots of records, lots of fans," he said. "Fans that are anxious to sing those records and anxious to sing other bands' records, too."
The tour kicks off May 31 in Uncasville, Conn. and ends July 13 in Minneapolis.
"The state of the boy band union is strong," Wahlberg joked Tuesday. "Even though technically we're not really boy bands, but we're OK with that, so we'll accept it."
The three bands sold millions of records in the 1980s and '90s and helped usher in a wave of vocal groups that continues today.
The Boston-based NKOTB formed in 1984 and amassed ten Top 20 hits. They broke up in 1994 but got back together after a 14-year hiatus. Wahlberg said he feels the break coincided with the maturation of their fan base.
"They needed time to have families and husbands and children and get jobs and live their life," Wahlberg said.
But now he sees his band's music as a complement to the fans' adult lives.
"We created an outlet for them to feel good about themselves and tap into that youthfulness that had been put to bed for a long time ... you may be 40, but the euphoria of it makes you feel 14 all over again," Wahlberg said.
The band also announced a new single, "Remix (I Like The)," which will be released Jan. 28, and a new album, "10," which is out April 2.
That music will be a bit more mature than some of the band's previous material, member Joey McIntyre said.
"It is about the decisions that a grown man makes and goes through, as opposed to singing songs like 'Popsicle,'" he said.
Nathan Morris, one of the members of Boyz II Men, known since the early 1990s for such hits as "I'll Make Love to You" and "End of the Road," said the tour is going to be all about performing.

The 39-year-old, who has a 14-month-old daughter, Ariahuna, tells RumorFix, “Instead of hanging with groupies, some of us will be changing diapers!”
Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo will also be taking their four-month-old, Camden John Lachey, on tour. Band member Drew Lachey has a two-year-old, Hudson, and a six-year-old, Isabella. “I think our families will join us,” Jeff says.
The last time the guys toured 10 years ago — they were all in their 20s and many of them were single.
Jeff tells us that after the band famous for “Because of You” had been talking about reuniting for awhile, but now the “timing just felt right.”
“We felt so good this summer performing together [with NKOTB], so we decided to do a full-blown tour.”

Oh “boy” band heaven!
New Kids On The Block are returning to heat up the summer stage with, "The Package Tour," kicking off May 31st.
NKOTB announced their headlining show today on “The View” with multi-platinum selling 98 Degrees and Grammy Award winning Boyz II Men as opening acts.
All the bands surprised the audience of “The View” with a capella performances, which had the crowd swooning and cheering as they got a sneak peek of what’s to come this summer.
“Ladies, we’re coming for you,” said NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg. “This is going to be the craziest year yet — the single, the album, the tour with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men … We can’t wait to give fans ‘The Package!’”
If the tour isn’t enough, NKOTB will drop a new album “10” on April 2, and are slated to release the first single “Remix (I Like The)” on iTunes later this month.
With 28 cities already on the tour roster, the first stop is Uncasville, Conn., in May and then the show continues until July.
USA Today reported Wahlberg called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show saying, “With all those egos in one building at the same time, you know there’s going to be a lot of crazy and fun stuff going on.”

The band plans to bring some heat this summer when they hit the road for a brand new headlining tour – and they're bringing along a few famous friends: 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men will open all shows on the jaunt, which kicks off May 31 in Uncasville, Conn.
Along with the announcement of their tour, the multi-platinum selling group will release 10 – their first new album in over four years – on April 2.
"We have been doing this for almost 25 years," says McIntyre. "So it's important that the music and the lyrics speak to who we are as grown men – and the album reflects that."
But that doesn't mean fans won't see some familiar moves.
"There is a lot of nostalgia and we embrace that," says the singer. "But it always feels young and fresh. I guess that's one of the great things about being in the music business is that you never have to quite grow up."

Show some pride at the 28th Annual Sacramento Pride Festival Saturday, June 2. The festival, which celebrates and commemorates the achievements that have brought lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans out of the shadows and into mainstream society, runs throughout most of the day—opening ceremonies are at noon—on Capitol Mall between Fourth and Seventh streets.

The hunky dad-to-be called off a summer tour because his wife Vanessa Minnillo is pregnant, but founding band member Jeff Timmons tells RumorFix exclusively, “You guys were right on about the tour. There was a tour and reunion in the works — however, timing is everything and we felt we just needed more time to put the right experience together for our fans.”

With just one little tweet, Nick Lachey broke a lot of hearts as he announced 98 Degrees would not be going out on tour this summer. But Jeff Timmons can help start the healing process, letting fans know that the reunion is only postponed, not cancelled. In fact, the group has been looking to get back together and do something ever since their last show over ten years ago.
“We’ve been kicking around the idea for a couple of years now,” Timmons told CBS Local. “We thought it would be great to go out and do something for the fans, considering how we abruptly ended things last time. There was no falling out. September 10, 2001 was our last true performance together for the Michael Jackson [30th Anniversary Special] in NYC. Obviously, 9/11 was the next day, so we all just stopped everything and went home to be with our families. We went our separate ways after that.”
After much speculation that 98 Degrees was going to tour the States this summer, Lachey refuted those reports on Thursday, April 12, writing on Twitter, “So psyched to see all the excitement for a 98 degree tour, but the only tour I’ll be doing this summer is at baby’s ‘r us.” The singer, who is expecting his first child in the late summer/early fall with wife Vanessa Minnillo, ended his tweet with the hashtag, “#neversaynever,” a sign that not all hope was lost.
Timmons says the group came to the decision to call off the tour the night before Lachey’s tweet. All four members agreed that it just wasn’t the right time. “Everything in the group has always been decided in a democratic fashion,” he said. “And that’s how this decision was made. It had nothing to do with anything or anyone outside of the members of the group. It would’ve been nice to do the tour, but things have to work out the right way for everybody involved.”
As of right now, an exact timeframe for a reunion tour is up in the air, but Timmons would like to see the guys perform again. “There were many magical moments regarding my experience with 98 Degrees both in the studio, and onstage. I think being able to deliver a wonderful performance and experience to the fans is the most gratifying thing. People from all walks of life understand what’s like to go out there and make someone else happy, whether they’re performers or not.”
As for new music, Timmons is also open to the possibility. “It’ll be interesting what direction we would go because we’ve all been creating music in our own styles,” he said. “I’m intrigued to see what we’d come up with. If that ever happens…”
And even though the reunion tour won’t be happening as of yet, Jeff’s calendar will be filled. He’ll be releasing new music in the coming months and 98 Degrees fans should also keep a look out for an announcement of upcoming dates for a Las Vegas residency. So, what exactly happened to the tour? In an exclusive Q&A with Celebuzz, founder and creator of 98 Degrees Jeff Timmons gave us a little insight, during which he admitted that any future plans for a tour seem unlikely at this point.
“I honestly don’t think it’s gonna happen at all now,” Timmons said, candidly. “If it wasn’t gonna happen now, it wasn’t gonna happen last year … Maybe it’ll never happen.”
“We had gotten serious about it,” he said, of the proposed summer tour. “So much so that a tour was being put together for us; a 15-city tour. We got on the phone, all of the guys discussed it, and it seemed like a go. And then not everybody wanted to do it, for various reasons. We make decisions collectively as a group; not one person make decisions. [Since] not all four of us were on the same page, we decided not to do it.”
Did Nick’s baby have anything to do with the boy band not reuniting? Not entirely, Timmons, 38, says.
“I know that it had come out that it was due possibly to Nick having a baby. I’m sure that played a small part into it, but I don’t think that was the main reason we didn’t get back together. I think that it was a number of things.”
